For Educators

At Redwood Wellbeing, we believe we all have a role to play in supporting children to develop a positive relationship with food and their bodies. Educators are an important part of a child’s world, and the everyday conversations, experiences and messages they encounter at school can shape how they think and feel about food, eating and body image. Redwood is here to support educators with knowledge, guidance and a collaborative approach, helping you feel more confident in creating environments where children feel safe, respected and supported to develop a positive relationship with food, their bodies and themselves.

The Food Friendly
School Framework

The Food-Friendly School Framework is a practical, evidence-informed resource for educators who want to support children’s nutrition knowledge while protecting their positive relationship with food.

Schools play an important role in shaping how children understand food, eating and their bodies -not only through nutrition lessons, but through classroom conversations, lunch breaks, celebrations, school policies and the everyday messages they receive from trusted adults.

This framework recognises that nutrition education and positive food relationships can go hand in hand. It provides guidance to help educators create school environments where children can learn about nutrition without fear or shame, experience food without labels of “good” or “bad”, feel safe bringing foods from their family and culture, and develop confidence, flexibility and trust in their own food choices.

By approaching food with curiosity, respect and balance, schools can support children’s physical health and emotional wellbeing while helping them build a peaceful, confident and lifelong relationship with eating.
